Lateral Canthal Lines, commonly called “laugh lines” or “crows feet”, are vertical wrinkles that appear around the eyes, usually when a person squints or laughs. They are a normal part of aging, and can be caused by the orbicularis oculi muscle, which tightens around the eye, pulling the skin forward and creating furrows. Over time, these lines become more prominent and if left untreated can lead to more deeply fissured wrinkles. These lines respond very well to a combination of botulinum toxin therapy, chemical peels and topical retinoids.
